In November 2014, the voters of California passed Proposition 47.
Effective immediately, Proposition 47 converted many drug possession and
theft crimes from felonies to misdemeanors. What has happened a year later?
Who has qualified to be released?
Have we impacted the overcrowded prisons?

Joining us to discuss the impacts of Proposition 47 will be
Margaret Dooley Sammuli, ACLU Criminal Justice & Drug Policy Director
and
Dave Greenberg, Chief Deputy District Attorney, San Diego County.

We're in for a real treat… Dr. Carl Luna and Tom Hom discuss Tom’s memoir
Rabbit on a Bumpy Road, a Story of Courage and Endurance.
In 1963 Tom Hom made San Diego history by becoming the first person of color ever

elected to the San Diego City Council.
Later, he went on to win a seat in the California State Assembly.

This is a story of history, perseverance and resilience and certainly a conversation
you won’t want to miss.

The National Conflict Resolution Center, in partnership with the Catfish Club,
will conduct a free 4-hour training (includes lunch).
The focus will be on: Communication, Collaboration,
Conflict Management, and Diversity. This interactive training is designed to improve
connection-building, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

The Diversity Advantage:  The Art of Inclusive CommunicationCourse Length: 4 Hours
Fun, yet thought-provoking exercises will help us understand how the unwritten

rules we live by are not always universal.  Diversity in the fullest sense of the word
includes race and ethnicity, but also gender, sexual orientation, age, and lifestyle.
Recognition of the entitlement of some and the history of exclusion for
others will be touched on in a way that helps people move forward
with better understanding, together.
Participants have an opportunity to explore how they, as individuals, and in

community groups, can become more effective through inclusion.
Additionally, participants will look at how developing respectful
communication can help address and deflect difficult comments
that might be considered racist, sexist,or generally discriminatory.

Conversations in Civility
We continue to see examples of incivility. It’s in our the schools, where bullying is prevalent;
in the workplace, where workers are stressed;
in politics, where intolerance has taken the place of  honest dialogue;
and on the internet, where many hide behind the anonymity of technology.
Please join as Dr. Carl Luna, Director of the Institute for Civil Civic Engagement
and noted Professor at San Diego Mesa College leads a discussion,
which takes a closer look at what civility means and why it matters.

Oscar-winning actor and liberal activist Richard Dreyfuss will dis his nonpartisan efforts
to promote civic education and a deeper knowledge of American history.
